THE PALLADIAN VILLAS

Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) was the most famous and influential italian architect of the Renaissance period.  Many people know of his three famous works in Venice, S. Giorgio Maggiore, Il Redentore and Le Zitelle, but few have seen the magnificent villas he built in Veneto.  This all day excursion explore two of those villas and the countryside surrounding them.

Treviso home of the medieval palazzi, with frescoes by Tommaso da Modena and the scenic canals.

Asolo the 15th century hilltop town of 'hundred horizons' which was once home to Robert Browning and Eleonora Duse.

Villa Barbaro Volpi, completed in 1558 which includes the spectacular spring fed statuary gtotto known as a nymphaeum.

Villa Emo completed in 1565 its 5-part profile is familiar in later Palladio inspired architecture, including the U S Capitol.
